Ikko-Ikki v Clan Monogoto ...

scenario: Ikko-Ikki force defends against an attack by clan Monogoto troops.

Ikko-Ikki force musters near the temple...

Clan Monogoto passes through a nearby village

and forms up....

Both sides advance ....

The Ikko-Ikki occupy one of the small hamlets....

Clan Monogoto move forward and occupy the other small hamlet...

and waste no time by attacking the hamlet held by the Ikko-Ikki...

Clan Monogoto teppo squads keep the Ikko-Ikki levy at bay .....

The attack on the hamlet has stalled, both sides exchange musket fire....

The Ikko-Ikki start a flank attack....

Clan Monogoto teppo squads fire and fail to hit anything; some of them are chased away by the Ikko-Ikki levy spearmen others are attacked by some mounted monks and samurai

Clan Monogoto bring up their samurai squad to counter the flank attack.....

The clan Monogoto teppo squad gets cut up by the mounted attack and the remnants run for it; the spear squad attacking the hamlet has fallen back to re-group.

The Ikko-Ikki levy spearmen chase Monogoto teppo through the small hamlet...

The Ikko-Ikki mounted monks and samurai follow through and attack the clan Monogoto samurai squad; a supporting Ikko-Ikki spear sqaud attacks some clan Monogoto spearmen...

The Ikko-Ikki troops on the other flank now move forward....

The Ikko-Ikki mounted monks and samurai cut the Monogoto foot samurai up and then encounter the Monogoto mounted samurai who lose the melee badly...

The Monogoto spear unit to their front charges .....

The remnants of the other spear unit are attacked in the rear by Ikko-Ikki levy spearmen...

they don't last long and rout....

The Ikko-Ikki spear unit pushes back the Monogoto spear unit ...

The remains of the Monogoto foot and mounted samurai retreat from the battlefield with their commander

the last Monogoto spear unit fights on desparately but is surrounded.......

Its all over for clan Monogoto - a win for the Ikko-Ikki....

Through the town...Bandit Trouble !

Niwa Kyoshi (a renowned fighter & swordsman) accompanied by his servant Fukuda Rokuro (also a good swordsman) are travelling to the regional capital on foot.  They reach the town of Haruno-machi, lying in wait are some bandits sent to kill them.

Kyoshi and Rokuro reach the outskirts of Haruno-machi...

They are confronted by bandits ......

Swords are drawn and blades clash....

Kyoshi cuts down three and Rukuro one....

as Rukuro fends off a bandit ... they get closer to the small town square ... more bandits.... 

In come the bandits,  Kyoshi despatches one ....

Rokuro another one .....

They fight their way out of the square....

Kyoshi kills another bandit and then comes face to face with the bandit' leader;  while Rokuro holds off a couple more bandits ....

The bandits fighting Rokuro fall back; meanwhile Kyoshi kills the bandit's second in command and continues his fight with the bandit leader.....

The bandits attack Rokuro again ....

He soon deals with them ....

The bandit leader is a tough fighter, only when Rokuro and Kyoshi join together against him ...

do they manage to beat him, badly wounded the bandit leader backs off through a paddy field...

somewhat tired, Kyoshi and Rokuro rest by the river before continuing their journey...

Ambush ...

 A palanquin and escort,  lady Aiko Tidamatsu on her way to visit a shrine....

Ninja's sent by the Monogoto clan lie in wait....

A thowing star whistles through the air just missing one of the leading retainers at the front ....

Swords are drawn as two ninjas become visible....

a retainer goes down dead....

the fighting continues....

The rest of the retainers position themselves to defend the palanquin

The ninjas attack the mounted samurai....

but are rebuffed ...

Another ninja pops out of the trees and uses his blow dart pipe - just missing a retainer....

The bowman fires and kills the ninja with the blow-pipe.....

Another ninja takes out the bowman and then turns on another retainer, one of the ninjas has dodged into the trees on the other side of the road...

Most of the ninjas are being kept back up the road, but one has got near the palanquin...

The ninjas push back their attackers.....

The mounted samurai rides back to the palanquin as the retainers fight the ninjas..

The ninjas kill a retainer and another falls back.....

The mounted samurai and the retainers make a desperate attack on the ninjas...

They are successful - all but one of the ninjas have been killed.. he runs off into the forest....

Lady Tidamatsu is safe, the journey continued without further incident to the shrine....

• Attacking Forces: 5 ninjas - 4 killed
• The 'caravan': A mounted samurai (with armour), an archer and 7 retainers
• archer killed: retainers: 3 retainers dead, 3 wounded and 1 unscathed.
• (for my Simple Combat rules - ninjas allowed  move & fire/throw)
